Jessica Means, MA, LPC, CCHP, brings over 17 years of dedicated experience in the field of substance use and mental health treatment. Holding a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from the University of New Haven, Jessica is a licensed professional counselor in both Connecticut and Virginia, with certifications as a Certified Correctional Health Professional CPR and as an Acu-detox specialist (5 point auricular acupuncture).

Throughout Jessica’s career, she has demonstrated a commitment to innovation and excellence in clinical leadership. She specializes in managing pivotal programs within integrated care systems, consistently driving robust outcomes through strategic initiatives. Jessica’s unique ability to assess and translate behavioral insights into actionable strategies has significantly influenced organizational decision-making processes.

With a proven track record of growth and leadership, Jessica has held roles as a Clinical Supervisor, private individual therapist, Clinician and serves as Board Chair for Advancing Connecticut Together, demonstrating a deep-seated commitment to community engagement and advocacy. collaborative approach extends to diverse populations, cross-functional teams, and key stakeholders, fostering productive relationships that enhance patient care and organizational effectiveness.

Primary Therapist

Tess is a Licensed Masters Social Worker. Tess received her bachelor’s degree in International Affairs with a concentration in contemporary cultures and societies. She continued her education to obtain her Masters of Social Work from the University of Connecticut with a focus on working with individuals, groups, and families. She has experience working with adults of all ages in a variety of settings, including the criminal justice system, outpatient substance use treatment, and university mental health systems. Tess uses a variety of therapeutic approaches when working with clients including cognitive behavioral, dialectical behavioral, psychodynamic, and solution-focused. She believes in meeting people where they are at, and understands that every individual has a unique story based on who they are and where they come from.

Chris McGuinn
Chris McGuinn

Program Administrator

Chris is an alumnus of Caron Treatment Centers and an active member of the alumni community. Chris has served in operational and policy roles for the Departments of Labor and Homeland Security. Most recently he served as a Policy Advisor for the Office of Workers’ Compensation Programs (OWCP) on opioid issues. He created the “Make Them Describe, Before They Prescribe” campaign, to encourage claimants to ask their doctors more questions when receiving new prescriptions.

He has also worked in the addiction treatment field, managing the Virginia and DC locations for a mid-Atlantic Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) provider. He currently advises addiction and poverty-alleviation non-profits on operational issues on a volunteer basis, including a faith-based 12-month program in southern Virginia.

Chris resides on Capitol Hill and Chincoteague Island, VA with his wife, daughter, and Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.

Clinical Associate

Hebe Boyett is a member of the Therapeutic Support team, co-facilitating groups with therapists as well as providing recovery coaching to clients. She is currently pursuing her bachelor’s degree from George Mason University in Addictions Counseling with a focus in Trauma. Hebe moved to Virginia in 2002 from Texas and in 2004 began her own journey toward recovery. Being very passionate and driven to help others she enrolled at NOVA in 2012 to become a Certified Substance Abuse Counselor. She graduated from Northern Virginia Community College with an Associate of Science Degree and a certification for Certified Substance Abuse Counselor and is licensed in the state of Virginia as a CSAC supervisee.

When she is not at work, Hebe is active in the local recovery community and volunteers at a mental health facility to further her mission of helping others recover. She also loves learning, being in school, movies, music of all genres and relaxing time with her Family, dog, and friends.

Tom Baroody

Primary Therapist

Tom is a Resident in Counseling in the Commonwealth of Virginia. He earned his Master of Arts degree from Marymount University in Arlington, Virginia, specializing in clinical mental health counseling. Having worked more than 20 years as a registered nurse, Tom brings a wealth of knowledge and experience into his new profession as a therapist. He has worked with populations of all ages and many cultures in a variety of settings, including outpatient, inpatient, the managed care industry, and as a contractor for the DoD working with military families. Tom uses a variety of therapeutic approaches in his work with clients, including cognitive behavioral, dialectical behavioral, person-centered, and strength-based approaches. He believes in the inherent worth and dignity of every human being and will strive to help his clients meet their greatest potential.

Siera Fayne

Clinical Associate

Siera received her bachelor ‘s degree in General Studies with a concentration in Psychology and Sociology from the College of Charleston. She is a member of the admissions team as well as the therapeutic support team, co-facilitating groups with therapists and providing recovery coaching. She uses her own experience from being in treatment and recovery to help others on their own recovery journeys.

Susanne Navas
Susanne Navas

Group Therapist

Susanne is a Resident in Counseling who has a solid background in helping people heal and feel better from the inside-out. Susanne helps patients using an integrated mind-body approach that focuses on rebuilding connection, in an effort to achieve profound, sustained wellness. She believes that healing and recovery are possible for everyone, through hard work and small steps taken consistently.

Susanne’s approach is centered on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), and Positive Psychology. As part of her integrative approach, she also incorporates a focus on physical wellness, including sleep, exercise, mindfulness, nutrition and creativity in her work with clients. She has worked in residential addiction treatment centers, including programs focusing on the first responder population, and an outpatient treatment center for eating disorders. Her patients have included athletes, members of law enforcement and the military, executives, and parents as well as teens, college students and young adults. She helps patients who are struggling with anxiety, depression, eating disorders, and unhealthy relationships with substances and other addictive behaviors.

Susanne completed her undergraduate degree in French and Spanish at Rutgers University, followed by a M.A. in International Affairs from American University. Pivoting with life and its twists and turns, Susanne was drawn toward a career in wellness, and became a certified Life Coach and Triathlon Coach, as well as yoga instructor. Susanne added a second master’s degree, in Clinical Mental Health Counseling through the College of William & Mary. She holds various certifications, including Yoga4Sobriety and trauma-informed yoga instruction, and speaks Spanish fluently.

Yoga Therapist

Juli is a licensed clinical social worker and yoga therapist and has extensive experience working in addiction and dual diagnosis treatment settings. During Juli’s many years working as a clinician, she has developed a passion for working with people struggling with substance use and addiction. Whether it be during therapy sessions, coaching, or during yoga sessions, Juli’s focus is to help people develop understanding of how unresolved trauma or underlying issues may contribute to their challenges with addiction or mental health, and to support them in learning ways to heal. Juli is a certified yoga instructor and is certified in yoga for 12 step recovery. She is passionate about exercise, and the role that movement can play in promoting overall well-being. Juli is an LCSW in Maryland, Virginia, and the District of Columbia and completed her master’s of social work at Virginia Commonwealth University.

I am a board-certified Psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner, Family Nurse practitioner, and Adult and Gerontology Nurse Practioner, focusing on providing evidence-based, patient-centered, and culturally appropriate care to all patients. I offer over a decade of experience providing psychiatric and medical care to patients.

I am accepting new patients I will be a trusted and reliable ally to help you attain your achievable goals by being empathetic, listening and communicating effectively, and building emotional resilience. Incorporating the patient’s goals into the treatment plan and ensuring the patient is an integral member of the interdisciplinary treatment team to attain their target goals.

Mary Kate Murray, LCMFT

Mary Kate Murray is a lifelong creative and educator. After 30 years as a teacher, trainer, and corporate process facilitator, Mary Kate decided to follow her passion to help her community and become a marriage and family therapist. She specializes in working with families experiencing addiction in the family system, helping loved ones build alliances with patients to support personal growth, reduction of suffering, awareness, and health of the family system and its individual members. She is trained in a trauma-informed and resilience-orientated care and working from a trauma-informed lens when working with dual-diagnosis. She has experience working with people of all ages and family roles, including parents, adult children, children, and adolescents. Mary Kate is skilled in working with groups, individuals, couples and families. Mary Kate is also a skilled family educator, and designs and delivers workshops and groups to the families at Encore and facilitates the weekly support group. As an advocate of providing trauma-informed and trauma-focused care, Mary Kate is also a member of Encore’s trauma team.
